I love it how everyone is just so much more cheerful and positive when the sun is shining out and about in London. Finally, it is our turn to be grateful for this weather!
And an even better news is... apparently it will stay this way for the rest of the week (do I dare to put my faithful trust on BBC weather?)!!
Anyhow, I went for a lovely stroll along Old Street, to Kingsland Road for my monthly Vietnamese fix at Song Que. (http://songque.co.uk/) It literally just made my day. Since I'm not eating any beef (giving it up for Lent), I went for a Grilled pork, Shredded pork and Spring rolls Bún (which is cold rice vermicelli noodles). This is definitely classified as my Summer food, compared to my usual order - Rare sliced beef steak Phở - which also tastes like heaven FYI.
Also had their Spicy Squid and Stir fried Ong Choi with spicy bean curd sauce 腐乳炒蕹菜.
I have been going to Song Que for the past 3 years, and I have seen many changes in the restaurant - new looking menu (with pictures!) and more capacity etc. However the prices have not changed. Along Kingsland Road, you will find many Vietnamese restaurants/cafes, and if you compare their prices, they are more or less in the same range. The question is of course the quality of the food.
If you are craving for a Phở or Bún, I would definitely recommend Song Que. I wouldn't go anywhere else for these noodles. And sometimes, the simpler the better. (I might even order a portion of their Summer Rolls too on the side).
After a very satisfying lunch, take a stroll to the Flowers Market on Columbia Road. http://columbiaroad.info/flowermarket.html
There, you will experience all sorts of screaming and shouting noises from the vendors "All for a fiver!"; "English Roses!" etc. Many varieties of flowers are available (well, depending on the season obviously - duh!). If you are not a big fan of flowers, you can check out the shops on both side of the markets. Modern Nordic designer chairs, kitchenware, vintage jewellery, DIY arts and crafts, art galleries, fabrics, tea pots, gardening DIY + more. And my favourite shop: Ryantown - by artist Rob Ryan (Follow him on http://ryantownshop.blogspot.com/)
While making my way back via Old Street, I came across these wall arts. They are absolutely cute and gorgeous! Notice how Woody comes across as an evil character here! Haha.
It was a perfect lazy Sunday.
